Given by King Christian VII to the French envoy, Count Jean-François Ogier d'Ivry (1703-1775) in 1772 (inscribed on frame: 'Donné en 1772 par Sa danois au Comte Ogier d'Ivry, conseiller d'Etat, ancien ambassadeur de France à la Cour de Danemark').

Anonymous sale; Kunsthallen Kunstauktioner, Copenhagen, 5 February 1992, lot 114 (sold 1,600,000 DK to the father of the last private owner). Sold at Christie's, London, on 8 December, 2009 (sale 7782, lot 32) for £241,250 to the Frederiksborg Museum, Denmark.
